'You should never get children pets': 20+ unpopular opinions about pet ownership

There is no getting around the fact that having an animal or several is a commitment. It might not be quite the same level as having a baby (most of the time), but it still means that you have a living thing depending on you for its every want or need. Of course, us animal lovers are adamant that they give back to us everything and more that we put into them, but that isn't without its controversies. Many people have wildly differing opinions on how to care for pets.

This has been underlined in a recent Twitter thread, which asked about everybody's potentially controversial opinions when it came to living with animals. Unsurprisingly, there were plenty of strongly held beliefs on the subject when it came to all kinds of critters, and not everybody was kind about it. It's a topic which any responsible pet owner is likely to feel strongly about.

    oli @oliverzwoods • 3d Replying to @allyzielinski owning pets actually SHOULD be treated like having a child. you have to be financially prepared and present enough to care and provide for an animal beyond the bare minimum. people act like it's wrong to compare the two, but the way you care for your pet SHOULD be comparable imo

No pet is 'easy enough' for a child to be able to reasonably take care of, unless that child is an older teenager who has more agency to take care of it. Unless youre willing to pick up the slack, keep it as a family pet or dont get it at all

    so molly aye @brainwormsssss . 2d pets getting cancer is sad but putting pets through chemotherapy is sadder. Fluffy can never understand why your medicine is making him sicker for the last part of his 10 year life span. just manage his pain and send him out on a high note
